Migraines

Symptoms

Migraine pain can be excruciating and can last for hours or even days. Migraines may be preceded by flashes of light, blind spots or tingling in the arm or leg. Other signs and symptoms include nausea, vomiting and extreme sensitivity to light and sound.

Diagnostics

Diagnosis begins with a detailed medical history and physical examination for each patient. If additional tests are required, patients have access to the latest diagnostic procedures and equipment, including MRI, CT scan, diagnostic injection procedures, myelography, ultrasound, EMG and nerve conduction studies.

Treatments

The Headache Center's team approach to pain management gives patients the full range of surgical and non-surgical treatment options.

  • Lifestyle modification
  • Medication management
  • Injections and nerve blocks
  • Radio frequency denervation
  • Discography
  • Implantable therapies

Warning Signs of Other Possibilities

Even if you have a history of headaches, changes in the type or pattern may indicate another, more serious medical problem. See your doctor if you have any of the following symptoms:

  • Abrupt, severe headache like a thunderclap
  • A new severe headache that isn't just on one side of your head
  • Headache with fever, stiff neck, rash, mental confusion, seizures, double vision, weakness, numbness or trouble speaking
  • Headache after a head injury, especially if the headache gets worse
  • Chronic headache that is worse after coughing, exertion, straining or sudden movement
  • New headache pain if you're older than 55

A Team Approach

Chronic headache treatment may require the expertise of multiple medical specialists. Your neurologist will communicate closely with all members of your multidisciplinary treatment team to assure top quality patient care.
